After a sluggish first quarter, the Solano College women’s basketball team stormed back from a 19-point deficit to earn a thrilling 67–56 win over College of the Canyons in their season opener Thursday night.
The Falcons (1–1) trailed 23–4 after the opening quarter but completely flipped the game with a dominant second period, outscoring Canyons 22–8 to pull within striking distance. Solano kept up the pressure in the second half, winning the third and fourth quarters 21–12 and 20–13 to seal the comeback victory.
Sophomore forward Natalia Sanchez powered the Falcons with a monster double-double, finishing with 17 points and 19 rebounds, including eight on the offensive glass. Jaylen Kuehnel caught fire from beyond the arc, knocking down three triples and finishing with 18 points. Lucia Alexander added 13 points, including three 3-pointers of her own, while Natalie Chavez provided a spark off the bench with 10 points and three rebounds.
Defensively, Solano tightened up after the rough first quarter, holding Canyons to just 33.9% shooting for the game and forcing 16 turnovers. The Falcons dominated the boards 68–34, turning second-chance opportunities into key points down the stretch.
The comeback win marks an early-season statement for Solano, showing resilience and balance across the roster. The Falcons will look to build on their momentum when they return to action.
