Sophomore Setter Giana Guintu Earns August Athlete of the Month

In her first month as Solano’s starting setter, Giana Guintu has proven to be a difference-maker and the steady hand guiding the Falcons’ offense. Despite stepping into a brand-new role, Guintu has quickly established herself as the team’s offensive leader while continuing to contribute in every facet of the game.

Through Solano’s first six matches, Guintu has played in every set, racking up 128 assists, 30 kills, and ranking second on the team with 80 digs. She has also excelled from the service line, delivering 15 aces while maintaining an impressive 91% serving percentage. On top of her offensive command, she has been Solano’s most reliable passer in serve receive, showcasing her all-around versatility.

What makes her performance even more remarkable is how seamlessly she has transitioned into the setter position. Running the offense is one of the most demanding roles in volleyball, but Guintu has approached it with confidence, athleticism, and poise well beyond her experience. Watching her set, one would hardly believe this is her first season in the position.

Head Coach praised her ability to adapt: “Giana has stepped into the role of setter with amazing grace and expertise. She’s such an outstanding athlete that she looks natural in the position, even though it’s brand new for her.”

For her leadership, versatility, and outstanding play on both sides of the ball, Giana Guintu has been named Solano's Athlete of the Month for August 2025.
